From Trash to Trendy

Triple Your Impact This Summer

Purchase an upcycled bag and you will:

  1. Directly support Beaded Treasures Project's programs for resettled refugee women,
  2. Provide fair wages to artisans in India for their unique handcraft bags,
  3. Keep plastic and trash out of our oceans!

Our bags are handcrafted by skilled artisans in India receiving fair wages for their craft and which directly support resettled refugee women in the Louisville community! Proceeds from the sale of our bags directly support our programming for local resettled refugee women! These bags are also recycled from would-be plastic trash, thus keeping our oceans clean! Your impact is TRIPLED!

How Are They Made?

  1. Plastic waste bags are washed and dried
  2. Bags are cut by hand
  3. Cut pieces are rolled by a 'charkha'
  4. Rolled 'twine' like plastic pieces are woven into fabric
  5. Upcycled, woven fabric is then sewn into a durable, beautiful bag

How Do Products From India Support Programs for Disadvantaged Women in Kentucky?

The Beaded Treasures Project has been working with these artisans in India for a little over a year now. Our founder, Surekha Kulkarni, met them on a trip to India and realized the potential for synergy between our organization in Kentucky and the work being done in India! We support the artisans directly by purchasing their handcraft at retail prices, ensuring that the artisans receive fair compensation for their work. We don't want to be a "middle man" who buys wholesale/bulk, because that would cut into these artisans' livelihoods and deserved compensation.

After purchasing these incredibly unique bags, we bring them to the United States to sell to the public. Proceeds from the sale of our global products go 100% to running the services and programs that we provide for resettled refugee women here in Louisville, Kentucky! Together, we are creating an infinite "Circle of Empowerment" from abroad to Kentucky.

Anything you do to become involved with Beaded Treasures Project, you become a change agent to women in our community and your life.
